Thrifting with a purpose.
The Cavazos Community Thrift Shop (Formerly known as the Fort Hood Area Thrift Shop) has been serving the Central Texas community for over 40 years. Conveniently located on the Fort Cavazos installation, we provide high quality, gently used items, at a fraciton of the big box store prices. We also offer consignment opportunities to those in the community, giving back thousands of dollars to our consigners each year and designate all of our shop profits to our grant program.
“What truly sets us apart from other thrift stores is the way we give back to the Central Texas community at large all the while ensuring that our customers are provided with a shopping experience that keeps them coming back,” said Jennifer Kirkpatrick, current president of the Fort Cavazos Community Thrift Shop.
We love our loyal customers and also enjoy getting to meet new faces every day. “Customers routinely come back to shop at the storefront, and, at times, there are lines around the front of the building before the official opening time,” Kirkpatrick added.
“We have people come back sometimes two or three times a week asking what new items we have,” said April Cruz, floor manager at the storefront. “It is always amazing to see our repeat customers come back and benefit from the shop.”
While we do have employees in the shop, our volunteers are vital to our day-to-day operations and overall success. “We really do have a lot of fun, all while supporting great causes,” Cruz said. As we get closer to the summer months, volunteer and employment opportunities become more readily available at the shop. If you are interested in joining our team through volunteering, please see how you can apply in the “Programs” section of our website.
